The gateway lot problem
Holly Ridge is the turn for Surf City and Topsail, and the growth that comes with that has been landing on wooded lots along US 17 and the roads running east toward Stump Sound. Most of the calls here are the same shape: someone bought a treed lot, the closing is done, and now a house has to fit on it.
The ground is sandy Onslow flatwoods. Loblolly pine, turkey oak, gallberry and wiregrass on the dry rises, and low pockets that hold water after rain and stay soft longer than the sand around them suggests. It clears well and it drains unevenly, which is why the grading half of the job usually matters more here than the clearing half.
