Two rivers, low ground, and a long memory of water

New Bern sits where the Trent runs into the Neuse, and nearly every clearing decision in Craven County comes back to that. Riverfront and creek-side lots in and around town are low, soft and slow to dry, which makes the window for heavy equipment narrower than it is a few miles inland. West and south of the city the ground firms up into pine flatwoods and old farm edges, where larger tracts are the norm.

Hurricane Florence put water into parts of New Bern that had never taken it, and properties here still carry the evidence. Leaning pines with lifted root plates, hardwoods that died back a season or two later, ditches and fence lines that filled with debris and never got cleaned out. A fair amount of what gets done in Craven County is finishing that work rather than starting something new.

The other half of New Bern work is quieter. A wooded lot being opened for a house. A homeowner reclaiming a back acre that went to sweetgum and vine. A field edge that needs bush hogging twice a year so it never becomes a clearing job again.

What we plan around on a Craven County job

  • Low, wet ground near the Neuse and Trent that decides when we can work
  • Storm-damaged and leaning trees with compromised root plates
  • Blowdown and debris still sitting in ditches, fence lines and wood edges
  • Larger rural tracts west of town with long drives and limited turnaround

★★★★★

Wade with WR Land Services completed an outstanding job on our property. He sent updates and photos throughout the process. He made us fill like family. I would highly recommend him for any job you may have.

Wade and WR Land Services just recently completed our 2nd small project and again the outcome far exceeded our expectations! From our initial contact, Wade promptly responded to our request and we met onsite to review and discuss or needs, options, etc. Wade ensured we both were on the same page in terms of the scope of work, expectations and timeline.

Frequently asked questions

Clearing land in New Bern, NC: common questions

Do you handle storm cleanup for an insurance claim?

Storm and disaster response is one of the services WR Land Services offers, and clearing downed trees and debris is routine work here. Documentation for a claim is a separate question from the clearing itself.

Needs from client
  • confirm whether WR provides written scope, itemised invoices or photo documentation suitable for an insurance claim, and whether it works directly with adjusters.
Can you work on wet ground near the river?

Sometimes, and sometimes the honest answer is to wait. Low ground along the Neuse and Trent stays soft long after it looks dry, and running equipment across it does more damage to the property than the job is worth. We would rather tell you that at the quote than halfway through.

How quickly can you get out after a storm?
Needs from client
  • response times after a storm event, and whether existing customers or safety-critical work are prioritized. We will not publish a number that has not been confirmed.
How much is your hourly rate?

All residential jobs are quoted as a flat rate price for the scope of work discussed, that means no hidden fees or surprises at the end.

How do your quotes work?

All quotes are free. Normally it helps speed up the process if after the initial phone call you text us with your Name, Address, Brief Description Of Work, and Photos. After that if we still can't accurately quote the job over the phone we will schedule a time with you to walk the property in person.

Why should I choose WR Land Services over the other guy?

We are a small family owned company who is very proud of our reputation and the work we do. Showing up on time, completing the job, and making sure you are satisfied is our top priority.
